The Martha Carpenter Observatory

Thanks to a generous gift from Dr. Martha Carpenter, W’51, the Department of Physics houses an observatory, complete with a Celestron Schmidt-Cassegrain 14-inch reflecting telescope, on the roof of the Gottwald Center for the Sciences.

The telescope serves as an instrumental accessory for student viewings and research. Regular, student-hosted observing nights are hosted by the UR Astronomy Club.
