Student Research, Scholarship, and Awards

Students regularly take part in research beginning as early as their first year. For more details about how to get involved see the research home page.

Student research and academic success often lead to conference opportunities and award outcomes. Many UR students have presented their research in posters and talks at conferences around the country. These have included meetings of the American Astronomical Society and American Physical Society, in locations from Hawaii to Florida. Examples of student research projects can be seen through the conference presentation titles. Additionally, the department selects annual award and scholarship winners based on academic performance and excellence.

Physics Paige Delsa Awarded and Heads to MIT

Paige Delsa, Spring 2025 graduate, received the Department of Physics Robert Edward Loving Award and was awarded a Goldwater Scholarship, the preeminent undergraduate award in science and math. In Fall 2025, she began attending MIT to pursue her Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering.

Christine Gyure Awarded

Christine Gyure, 2025 graduating senior, was awarded the Department of Physics 2025 Jackson J. Taylor Award. In fall 2025, she began attending the University of Edinburgh to pursue her MSc in Theoretical Physics.

Eric Neuhaus Awarded

Eric Neuhaus, Spring 2025 graduate, also received the Department of Physics 2025 Jackson J. Taylor Award. He is researching nanoelectronic devices while pursuing a PhD in Applied Physics at Rice University.
