The Martha Carpenter Observatory
Thanks to a generous gift from Dr. Martha Carpenter, W’51, the Department of Physics houses an observatory—complete with a Celestron Schmidt-Cassegrain 14-inch reflecting telescope—on the roof of the Gottwald Center for the Sciences.
The telescope serves as an instrumental accessory for classes and research. It is also available to any student interested in learning more about astronomy or getting a glimpse of moons, stars and planets. Regular, student-hosted observing nights are available.
For more information about the observatory, please contact Dr. Henry Nebel.
